READY, STEADY, GO, Stop Smoking
Stop Smoking and improve your life
Half the battle is over once you have decided to stop smoking. However, the most difficult part comes after. You must deal with the temptation and urges, along with nicotine withdrawal. It’s not an easy road but there are steps you can take to be prepared.
The Reasons You Want to Stop Smoking
Besides having a list you tape up on your bathroom mirror and read to yourself every day, perhaps make a copy of this list to carry around with you. Whenever temptation comes, you can just pull it out and read it over and over to yourself until the urge goes away.
Always Be Ready
After you stop smoking, you can still meet temptation at any time. You will find yourself in situations or places where you previously smoked. So, you must be ready for such instances. What do you do? Make a plan and again, write it out. First, write out every situation or place that leads you to smoke. Secondly, write how you will act to unsettle the habit to smoke in these instances. Be as detailed and comprehensive as possible, thinking of every situation.
Water
After you stop smoking and you are feeling a strong urge to smoke, drink some water. Have water with you at all times. Drink instead of smoking. You will start feeling the positive effects of drinking enough water and not smoking at the same time.
Reward Yourself
Whenever you meet a goal or milestone, such as one week after you stop smoking, etc., do not forget to reward yourself. Always decide something in advance. Write out your reward for each goal on a piece of paper, and don’t forget to act on it when you succeed.
Divert Your Mind
Have diversions ready when an urge to smoke strikes you. Perhaps it can be something little like
Baoding balls which require much concentration. Or, tell yourself you will do 50 jumping jacks or 30 pushups when the urge arises. Have some toffee or suckers you will partake of to give your mouth something to do, etc.
A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed
Make a call to your close friend or anyone who has stopped smoking and can talk to you for a while. You will forget the craving for smoking while talking.
The Punch
Get a picture of a smoker’s lungs and always keep it with you. Stare at the picture and imagine it as a picture of your own lungs to sober your thoughts and emphasize your goal.
